It's been 10 years since the blackout which just happens to coincide with our 10 year wedding anniversary. Yes, we got married the weekend of the blackout. Believe it or not, the blackout didn't have much of an impact on our wedding day itself (although all of our friends/family will never forget our anniversary). Aside from having to cancel our rehearsal dinner and having a very small group of people at our rehearsal, the blackout was actually a good thing for us. It was impossible to worry about any of the normal wedding 'details' when the day before there was a chance that we'd have to cancel our wedding. The only thing that mattered was the fact that Romeo and I were getting married and it made us appreciate every minute more than we would have otherwise.
In addition to the blackout, I found out that I had melanoma a few weeks before our wedding. A week before I saw a plastic surgeon to have the effected area removed. It was such a weird time because all of these bad things seemed to be happening but looking back I think they helped us focus on what was most important - the fact that we were starting our life together. And the fact that there was no one else I'd rather have by my side for the rest of my life.
Looking back over the last 10 years it's hard to believe how quickly it's gone by. I feel way too young to be married for 10 years! And even though I didn't think it was possible to love him more, once I saw Romeo with Kingsley and I saw how much he loved and cherished him, I knew that what I had felt before paled in comparison to the love I felt watching him as a father. It's gone by quickly but it's been so much fun! I'm looking forward to celebrating our anniversaries for the next 80+ years.
On a less sappy note, I thought I'd point out that my wedding was the best hair day I've EVER had...
