Since I was complaining about the Vanity Fair Best Dressed list yesterday, I thought I should finally post about it. Always A Critic flagged the list for me pretty much as soon as it was published but I've delayed posting until I had time to write a detailed description of the list and my thoughts. Before I go into my thoughts, here's the full list:

First Ladies - Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Michelle Obama

Women - H.H. Sheikha Mozah of Qatar, Penelope Cruz, H.R.H. Princess Letizia of Asturias, Kelly Ripa, Kathy Freston, Agnus Gund, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keyes, Chiara Clemente, Lizzie Tisch

Men - Brad Pitt, Barack Obama, CY Twombly, Arpad Busson II, Matteo Marzotto, Alejandro Santo Domingo, Tiki Barber, Roo Rogers, Daniel Craig

Hall of Fame - Renee Zellweger, Lapo Elkann, Catherine Deneuve, Liliane Bettencourt, Count Manfredi Della

Siblings - Jane and Aerin Lauder, Stavros and Eugenie Niarchos

Originals - Duchess of Alba, Ike Ude, Bruce Weber, Nicky Haslam, Peter Beard

Professionals - Stacey Bendet, Tory Burch, Georgina Chapman, Ali Hewson, David Lauren, Candy Pratts Price, Mathilde Meyer-Agostinelli, Rachel Roy, Franca Sozzani

Couples - Michael Bloomberg and Diana Taylor, Shelley Wanger and David Mortimer, Natalia Vodianova and Justin Portman, Enrique Ponce and Paloma Cuevas

I have mixed feelings about the list overall. I think there are some really interesting choices but most of them are pretty boring. Definitely not what I would consider trend setters. There's a good mix of young, old, known, unknown, movie stars and professionals but I have to question any best dressed list that includes Renee Zellweger in the 'Hall of Fame' selections (that's just ridiculous). Also, out of all of the Hollywood starlets to feature, Penelope Cruz and Anne Hathaway wouldn't make my list. They're both beautiful and can look great on a red carpet but best dressed?!? No. I do agree with their call out of First Ladies Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy though - politics hasn't been this fashionable since Jackie O was in the White House!

What do you think? Do you think the likes of Kelly Ripa, Michael Bloomberg and David Lauren deserve to be named Best Dressed? And who do you think is missing? Who would be on your best dressed list?

  1. Great post, as always!

  2. agreed. Renee Z. is a disaster most of the time she heads out the door. I like the way Kelly Ripa dresses, but best dressed? hmm...
    a strange mix of choices...
